We celebrated Matthew’s Birthday while in Tokyo. He’s 13!
It took a while for the crowds to move away, but we managed to have this big Sakura tree all to ourselves. For a few seconds… hah!
Unlike the other blooms, this tree still has green leaves.
The cake is small, but being in Tokyo is a good consolation prize.
We went back to Ueno and explored the other side of the park nearer to the pond.
Blooms here…
Blooms there…
Blooms everywhere!
Once we have the angle right, we only needed one tree in full bloom.
Get the distance right and the flowers become a bright pink mush against the Sun.
The temples here sell charms of all sorts. These are for education. They’ll stay permanently in my kids’ schoolbags. Every bit of luck helps!
We took the train everywhere and while complicated at first, it wasn’t that bad once you’ve taken a few of them. Densha life is no problem (even though I rode the wrong train and ended up in Yokohama)…
Lenny brought Madelyn to Sanrio Puroland…
While Matthew and I made the pilgrimage to the life-sized Unicorn Gundam in Odaiba. +1 nerd cred.
After a quick ramen lunch, we went to Megaweb Toyota City…
And of more interest to the both of us, the Megaweb History Garage.
My first time seeing an original DeLorean in person. No Mr. Nuke modifications though so it’ll still need roads.
Most important of all, shopping in Puroland!
Most important of all, shopping in Puroland!
“Mommy, I really should have gotten more stuff. My bag is barely filled!”
The next day, we went to Asakusa. We came also in 2017 but I didn’t pray in Senso-ji Temple. I found out it’s a Guanyin temple when we were leaving and I promised I’d come back in my next visit. Promise fulfilled.
Sakura was beginning to bloom here too…
Can’t take enough photos of these things.
Signs that you’re in Japan #102.
Spring in Tokyo.
We wanted to take a boat from Asakusa to Tsukiji and had a short walk by Sumida River. We missed the scheduled boat though so we took the train instead.
Hungryyyyy…
Food collage 2!
Mmm Wagyu… 2,000 JPY per stick at Tsukiji Market. And that’s the cheapest meat on offer.
